It is with great sadness that we vacate our centres at Parel. Our lease has now run out. After 10 years in the area, the once familiar logo of SJICC will no longer be visible as the van taking our children to and from the hospital will not be plying this route anymore.
The R.Jhunjhunwalla Centre was the first step forward in our growth story. The invitation from the Indian Cancer Society (ICS) to open a centre on their premises was a validation of our model. With more space available to us, we had to change our original model of an 8 unit centre at the Dr. Mhaskar Hospital at BDD Chawls, to one with 14 units. But we weren’t complaining! This larger space also meant more space in the common play area, a dedicated room for our Manager and Counselor, a garden downstairs for our children to relax in and a kitchen where our families could cook with piped gas. We also refurbished the common dining area providing our families with a cheerful clean place to eat in. We shared this space with the other occupants of the building, the cancer survivors who were being rehabilitated by the ICS. We also refurbished the lower floors so that ICS could relocate their activities there.
